Do you know who your ideal customer or client base is?
If you say everyone, or that you target everyone then you’re making a HUGE mistake. Failing to define who your service or product is for can be costly and may ruin your chances of success.
In this blog, we want to help you pinpoint exactly who your audience is. This way you can make sure your products, services and content will attract your ideal customer.
Step 1. Use some good old-fashioned brainstorming
First think about what problem your service is aiming to solve. Once you’ve defined the main problem, that’s when you dig further to find the demographic of the people who may be experiencing this problem.
Think about:
- Gender
- Age
- Interests and hobbies
- Occupation
- Location
- Average income
- Level of education
Step 2. Survey your existing customers or clients
Get information from those who have bought from you in the past and know/ love your product. Use this data to pinpoint exactly who is most likely to buy from you.
It’s also a good idea to ask your existing customers where and how they found out about you. Use this information to advertise in that same way to attract more like-minded customers.
Step 3. Social listening
It’s time to do a little eavesdropping! Find out a little more about the people who are currently looking for your products or services by listening in on other social media conversations.
Step 4. Social media analytics
Find out who you’re currently serving and how to attract like-minded people in the future by researching your own analytics.
Pay attention to:
- Your audience demographics
- Most popular topics
- Most popular social networking sites for your audience
- Content formats that get the most reach and engagement (i.e., text, images, videos or links)
Hopefully with this information you’ll be able to discover more about your ideal customer. Where they are, what they need, and what you can do to attract and help them.
