Photography is a vital aspect in successful marketing and is a super useful way for businesses to visualise the products and services they offer. Not only that but statistics show that posts with images produce 650% higher engagement than text-only posts.
This blog shares some key do’s and dont’s when taking photos, whether you’re taking them on your phone or camera.
Do keep good focus
Want crips and clear images? Then make sure you’re focusing your camera properly. If your subject is not in focus, this can look really bad to the viewer and may turn them away from your business. Take your time and ensure you have a few good shots that are all in focus.
Don’t touch the lens
This is a big no no. Touching your lens can not only cause smudges and make your photos look blurry, it can also cause tiny scratches. Before taking any photos, take a microfibre cloth to your phone or camera lens and give it a good clean.
Do experiment
There’s nothing worse than boring and generic photos. Don’t be afraid to try something new, something a little out there that will catch your audience’s attention. Pinterest and Instagram are great platforms to get inspiration from and spark your creative ideas.
Don’t be afraid to edit
Editing can take your images from amateur to professional in an instant. Aim to brighten your images, while also adding a little more contrast and sharpness. Careful not to over do it though, as your photos could end up looking tacky! If you’re cautious about editing, have a look for some free presets that you could use to create a theme throughout all your images.
Do use props
No matter what you’re photographing, make sure it’s not standing alone. If you sell a product, show it alongside other products you may use with it. You could also use a model to demonstrate its use and benefits.
Don’t forget lighting
Lighting can make or break your photos. Avoid harsh or direct light as this will create rather unflattering shadows on your subject. Indirect and diffused light is always best for taking photos, just make sure that it’s bright enough that you’re not having to edit it too much afterwards.
