Just like anything, marketing and advertising has it’s share of myths and misconceptions – some more surprising than others. And it’s this false information that could be ruining the results of your campaigns.

Do you want some insight on what’s true and what’s false? In this blog, we’ve identified 6 common marketing myths to help you.

Myth 1: Advertising is the same as marketing

Advertising is the process of buying space or time in mediums whereas marketing is more about the planning, strategy and implement.

Myth 2: Offering your customers multiple options will boost your sales

When customers are confronted with several options, most of them have difficulty making a clear decision. So ultimately, that means a decrease in sales.

Myth 3: Doing a little marketing is better than doing nothing at all

You have to know what you’re doing and the marketing has to be smart, otherwise it could become a complete waste of a company’s time and resources. Marketing doesn’t have to be expensive though as there are many channels out there to help get you started.

Myth 4: Everybody is a client

Wrong! Like the quote says… “If you try to be everybody’s friend, then you won’t be anybody’s friend.” When you are starting to advertise your business need to become more discerning. You need to identify your niche.

Myth 5: Sales people aren’t really part of the marketing process

Simply put – this is not true. Sales people are just another cog in the machine. For example, some marketing processes will lead customers to a sales team who will then close the deal = make the sale.

Myth 6: Social media is not for B2B marketing

Let’s bust this myth once and for all! Social media presents an opportunity to put a face to your business and connect with a lead on a more personal level. Just remember to choose your social platforms wisely and keep active – results will pay off.

Were these what you were expecting? There are many more misconceptions out there, so do your research and learn up on what great marketing really means.

Myth 7: Great products or services sell themselves

Unless you’re already a well known brand like Apple or McDonalds, then you need to be marketing yourself constantly. Have a website, praise your services or products as much as possible, get testimonials and be present online.
