This pandemic is stressful but for some brands out there, business is slower than ever.

So what can we do as consumers to support businesses through these hard times and ensure they make it to the other side?

Order delivery from independent restaurants and cafes

Some food services are allowed to remain open for delivery so check in with your favourite local eateries and see how you can support them.

Gift from independent brands

Small acts of kindness can go a long way, so lift a friend’s spirit with a little present. Not any old present though, treat them to a gift from an independent brand that you both know and love.

Stock up on gift cards

Whether its your hair salon or nail tech, supporting these independent businesses during this period is so important. See if your favourite salons are offering gift cards and stock up to help them keep afloat.

Subscribe to virtual studios

No longer able to attend your 9am yoga class? Most fitness classes are now being held through Zoom or Google Hangouts, so sign up to one of those. Keep fit and be supportive – it’s a win win.

Buy local produce

It may seem effective to buy all your food in one go at ASDA or Morrisons. But truth is: they’ll be fine. Instead, try buying local and support butchers and farmers near you.

Reschedule rather than refund (if you can)

If you’ve already invested in a trip, try to postpone rather than cancelling all together. Simply reschedule for when the pandemic is over, these smaller independent B&Bs will be thankful.

And remember, we’re all going through this together and experiencing it in different ways. Be kind and be supportive where you can.
