It’s surprising to see how many myths and misconceptions there are surrounding marketing and advertising. But it’s this false information that could be sabotaging your campaigns and affecting your conversions.
We’ve identified 6 common marketing myths to hopefully give you some insight on what’s true and what’s false.
Myth 1: People always buy where they get the cheapest prices
If this was true, then only businesses with cheaper products would exist! Some prefer to buy cheap but most people are interested in getting value for their money.
Myth 2: Offering your customers multiple options will boost your sales
Well, not quite. When customers are confronted with several options, most of them have difficulty making a clear decision. This means a reduction in your sales.
Myth 3: Doing a little marketing is better than doing nothing at all
You have to know what you’re doing and the marketing has to be smart, otherwise marketing could actually be a complete waste of a business’ resources. Marketing doesn’t have to be expensive though as there are many channels out there to help get you started.
Myth 4: Great products or services sell themselves
Unless you’re already a well known brand like Apple or McDonalds, then you need to be marketing yourself constantly. Have a website, praise your services or products as much as possible, get testimonials and be present online.
Myth 5: Sales people aren’t really part of the marketing process
This is simply not true, sales people are just another cog in the machine. Some marketing processes lead customers to a sales team who will ultimately close the deal and make the sale. Collaboration between teams is vital.
Myth 6: Social media is not for B2B marketing
Let’s bust this myth once and for all! Social media presents an opportunity to put a face to your business and connect with a lead on a more personal level. Just remember to choose your social platforms wisely and keep active – results will pay off.
