Are you looking to improve your social media for your small business? Or invitations for  future events?  Well, here are 4 tips for non-graphic designers that could help your SME to attract your target audience.

Tip #1 – Adding scale into your designs

When creating social media content, scale is used to emphasise features that need to stand out. For example if you are a recruitment agency that are using Facebook and Twitter to advertise current job roles then you would use scale to make sure the viewer’s eye is attracted by the job. This could be achieved by using a larger font size for the job role and smaller font size for the description.

Tip #2 – Keeping the same colour

In any type of business there is always a colour scheme, but these colours do not have to be bright or eye-catching. The colour scheme on all your content must reflect your small business, which would have been decided when creating the logo and brand guidelines for your company. The colours in your brand guidelines  should be followed throughout your whole business publishing, from social media graphics to menus or leaflets. This is so the target  audience will recognise that this is your business from the constant reminder of those colours and your logo.

Tip #3 – Making sure everything is consistent

When creating content for your small business (this could be leaflates, menu, brochure) you need to ensure that all visual  information is consistent. By consistency, we mean text, colours and font size should stay the same across all graphics but also using the same tone of voice in your visulas and photos.  This is to make your content look more  professional, pleasing to look at and easier to read.

Tip #4 – Keeping it Simple

It is your responsibility as a small business to ensure every element shared online or offline  has a reason to be there. You don’t  want to over complicate visual elements as this can become unpleasant to look at or read. Make sure the text is easy to read by  keeping fonts, colours and imagery to a minimum.
